Disaster Recovery Using VMware vSphere Replication and vCenter Site Recovery Manager
Disclaimer: I have received this book as a free review sample, with the only requirement that I would write a review of it here on my blog. The reviews published here are my own views and I was in no way obligated to write positive reviews
I was graciously given the opportunity to read and review Disaster Recovery Using VMware vSphere Replication and vCenter Site Recovery Manager, written by Abhilash GB (http://in.linkedin.com/in/abhilashgb) and published by Packt Publishing.
The book basically covers installation and configuration steps for setting up VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager as well as VMware vSphere Replication along with deep insights into effective DR management.
The Chapter breakdown is as follows:
Chapter 1: Installing and Configuring vCenter Site Recovery Manager (SRM) 5.5
This Chapter looks into the steps for installing and configuring VMware Site Recovery Manager within your own datacenter. It provides few good design implementations along the way as well; providing pros and cons for the same.
Chapter 2: Creating Protection Groups and Recovery Plans
Once the basic groundwork is laid in for SRM, the next logical step is to enable protection of the virtual machine workloads. This chapter describes the steps for creating Protection Groups and Recovery Plans.
Chapter 3: Testing and Performing a Failover and Failback
Perhaps the most important part of this book, this chapter outlines some of the key steps an administrator must take to ensure that the Recovery Plans and failback mechanisms are in place and functional in case of an actual emergency.
Chapter 4: Deploying vSphere Replication 5.5
vSphere Replication has been VMware’s answer to a cost effective DR solution for Enterprises that don’t want to invest heavily into complex storage replication technologies and so far, it hasn’t disappointed at all. The Chapter walks through simple, usable steps that a Datacenter administrator must take to install and configure vSphere Replication using either the bundled software or the ready to use appliance.
Chapter 5: Configuring and Using vSphere Replication 5.5
This chapter describes how replication actually takes place with vSphere Replication and which configuration tasks are involved with the replication of a virtual machine.
- Easy to use guide for installing and configuring VMware SRM and vSphere Replication..
- Good design considerations provided [could have provided a bit more.. but still fair enough.. :) ]
Overall, a good book to read and recommend..
